My USMC dogtags and my tattoo
I am a young guy looking for nothing more than a committed Penpal.
I don't want money, I don't want you to hire me a good lawyer,
and I don't want you to help me get my novel published. I am in
the minority of American prisoners who just need a friend to correspond
with. I was born in '78 in Virginia but was raised in Connecticut.
I'm a middle child of divorced parents : an Irish and English mother,
a Sicilian father. I have completed a dozen years of education and
had me a stint in the military after that. I am really into piercings
and tattoos; I had seven of the former and have a large one of the latter.
I dig rock music (Korn, Godsmack et al) as well as alt. country music.
(Shania, Toby Keith et al ). I've been a prisoner since '97 and a row
con since '99. Come as you are and I will respond. Whether you
are bulimirexic or obese, pale or ebony skinned, young or elderly - male
or female, - I will readily accept your penpal ship. So take a chance
on me. All that you stand to lose is a postage stamp if it turns out
that you don't like me. The choice is yours, web Surfer. I will
be here.
Bye / Adios / Ciao / Au revoir / etc...
The US Supreme Court has made it clear that prisoners do retain certain
First Amendment rights. As Justice Marshall has stated in a concurring
opinion, in a leading case, Procunier V Martinez :
"When the prison gates slam behind an inmate, he does not lose his
human quality; his mind does not become closed to ideas; his intellect
does not cease to feed on a free and open interchange of opinions; his
yearning for self respect does not end; nor is his quest for self realization
concluded. If anything, the needs for identity and self respect
are more compelling in the dehumanizing prison environment. Whether
an O. Henry writing his short stories in jail cell or a frightened
young inmate writing his family, a prisoner needs a medium for self expression.:
