In 2001, Todd married while on Florida's death row. He had met his wife through pen pal correspondence. We are thankful that Todd had someone who loved him in his last months as he faced his fatal illness, for which he had decided to decline treatment. Todd's wife, Carie, sent us these reports on his illness in February :
Feb 2, 2002 - "Todd started having problems with headaches, etc. in November and it started affecting his thinking like with words, with writing, etc. So around Christmas he was really worse. He normally could beat me with the scrabble games, big time and Christmas I showed him how to make words. He had stroke/seizure symptoms right after Christmas and it turns out he had a brain tumor on the left side but it had roots so we don't know how it was developing. He had surgery in JAX to remove as much as they could. But now he can't write, he can basically read my letters but then we are so connected. They told him he needs to do chemo but now he is making decisions on what he wants to do, more worried about me, as usual. I saw him for two hours last Saturday at the infirmary which helped him. This sort of came on like a ton of bricks, you know? Plus they are tightlipped there at UCI. They won't tell you anything, all I heard was rumors for a while and some weren't good. Hope all is going well. He can get mail, he just has trouble responding. Carie"
Feb 3, 2002
- "...What was weird is he thought the headaches and stuff were a deviation
from a new meditation he was trying, had we known it was medical maybe
he could have gotten
treated sooner but
then if the tumor was that progressed it would not have made much of a
difference.
When I saw him a couple times in December I could tell something was wrong,
he was always warm too and I had to warm him up. I guess finally a guard
who knew how
intelligent he is
noticed the major difference in his behavior, that he was not understanding
things, etc. and alerted someone. As long as I was there with
him he was focused totally on me, and I had his attention and he seemed
like he could stick with me, that he was just tired, but as soon as i was
out the door he asked my friend's husband where they were going. They don't
really notice the
guys up there you know? Took someone who knew him. What really
sucked was that a friend of mine, not the prison, let me know that he went
up to the hospital with a stroke, this was the initial diagnosis.
Another friend who saw her husband that Saturday didn't even have her coat
off and the female guard in the visiting park was there telling her to
get a hold
of me because they
took Todd out the night before. But then when my other friend called
me she said to make up something when I called the captain on duty because
she found out another way. They are shrouded in such secrecy, it's
like a man who is paralyzed from a stroke is going to be broken out of
the prison. They are so paranoid up there. No one up there
would tell me anything and the rumor had floated around he had died, but
you know, we are so connected, like
twins and I would
have known. So finally his investigator, the feisty one wheedled
the information out of Lake Butler and that day she was on a flight to
JAX where they had him and actually got into see him. She told
me she was not leaving 'til she saw him. He was upset he hadn't heard
from me, etc. and she told him the screw up in communication and he understood.
They wanted to do
surgery on him, but got to love that guy, he refused surgery 'til he talked
to me. :) Of course the doctor in JAX was ticked and they sent him
back to UCI. He is not paralyzed so the tumor must have created some
pressure on his brain. What was strange is that the night before
he called via the chaplain I thought the doctor was going to call for him
and I'd talk to
him, 9:15 the next
day the chaplain placed the call for him. When I finally saw him
he told me he was worried about me that I didn't know what was going on,
etc. which is why he was so persistent in calling besides the fact he wanted
my opinion in getting surgery. I told his investigator that he is
probably worried about me, etc. and I was right. The prison
is still not giving information out even to his lawyer or investigators,
let alone me. Then his investigator
arranged for me to
get a visit last week and instead of 1 hour they gave me 2. They
brought him in a wheelchair and he was really unsteady and I am glad he
didn't wipe out because he is so big, he towers over me. :) So now
he is or may have already made a decision as to whether or not he wants
chemo or just go back to his cell to sort out his things for me.
He is in denial that anyone would be concerned about him and I told him
that as long as he has me he has everyone and to get used to it. :)He knows
I can be stubborn too. :) He can read my letters and get the mail,
it is just he has trouble writing.....Carie"
Feb 10, 2002 -
Just
thought I would update you. I am still getting letters from Todd.
He is very stubborn on one hand which is good as he continues to try to
stay busy and be occupied and tries to respond to my letters. He
did however make his decision to not go for chemo so it is just a matter
of a few months i guess. They are giving him 2 Tylenol 3's every
3 to four hours for the pain. I can understand him not wanting to
go through the agony and from what information I have been getting, it
is blessing if you don't have the headaches because otherwise you are in
agony. I would not want that for him, so little by little I will
have to let go and be thankful for what
he
has done for me and how much he loves me......Carie"

Good
morning all: Just wanted to let you know that Todd passed about 3:15 this
morning....
He
was unconscious. So he does not suffer any longer. :) Carie"

Todd's Pen Pal request to the CCADP:
Greetings Web Denizens!
"Welcome to my Nightmare" is Alice's line, so I bid you Enter my mind's shadowy Dreamscape and my Virtual Life if you'd care to explore chaotic reality with a Death Row Prisoner.
I'd be thrilled to hear from open-minded adults to discuss various subjects - hedonistic, pagan or whatever stimulates your passions while awaiting news on my appeals. Yes, I'm an optimist who hopes for Freedom eventually, but it's a slow process that has devoured 10 years already.
I'm 31 now - born April 18, 1966 - An Aries with a fiery, dominant personality, unrestrained imagination and a creative bent. Some folks might say I'm eccentric, but only the rich can afford that title, whereas I merely strive to exist well.
Besides, I prefer the distinction "Master of the Bizarre" since I love Vampyres, Dragons, Unicorns and Angels - fallen or not. Gothic Tastes illustrate this as I enjoy fantasies: Rice's "Beauty and Vampire Chronicles", Jordans "Wheel of Time", Norman's "Gor", and Clive Barker of "Hellraiser" fame. Pinhead Rules! (Contact me to make a deal).
I'm also a veteran Role-Player ~ of AD&D, Shadowrun, Elric with an ardor for the Masquerade ~ desirous of hearing from adventurers in these realms, the Dark Side and sci-fi: Babylon5, ST:DS9, all things Klingon. Art is another passion as a published illustrator of Erotic kink, a Bettie Page fanatic, adorer of Pin-Ups, Buffy the Vamp, the Nanny, Dark Art and adult Comix; the work of Sorayama, Oliva, Bishop, Stanton and John Willie.

Walk on the wild side with an American death
row prisoner, confined to a 6x9 cage like an
animal. Since they treat me as such I'll be one
- an unabashed, horny aries ram with fiery,
dominant personality. I was born on April
18th, 1966. Let your passionate, primal urges
join with me for some hedonistic, erotic fun -
all feisty ladies welcome and the kinkier, the
better!
That's hardly all I'm about, but 14+ years
down makes a man lonely and lustful; so lets
do it! ;o)
We can correspond about plenty of other
subjects too, as I'm interested in many facets
of life and always seek to learn more.
Particularly in regard to the hidden knowledge
of occult as I'm a neo-pagan, kabbalist, odinist
striding my own path and studying all diverse
fields: wicca, golden dawn, tantric, goetia, etc.
Would love a wanton witch best, or genuine
friends to share stimulating conversation and
set me free from this hole a while.
I'm no game player (aside from fantasy role
playing); love to read books - esoterical to
some fantasy, sci-fi, horror/thrillers, adult
erotic; am straight forward, no holds barred
and look for the same.
I don't have much contact with the outside,
but I hope you'll change that! I will gladly
respond to all who snail mail me, so what are
you waiting for?!
