My name is Scott Patzke. I'm 38 yrs old. On the street I was a carpenter, since I've been here I've taught myself through correspondence school the law and am a paralegal which no longer is much help since they took the law library away from us. So lately I've been learning languages. I'm fluent in German and French, my Italian is coming along pretty good (I would really be in demand if it was 1942 :-) ) I speak some Spanish but I can't read and write it like I can the others. I would like mail in any of these languages just to keep in practice. I spend most of my time studying something, not that I'm all that studious, purely out of self defense to keep from going crazy. So I'd be interested in most everything anyone would care to talk about.
As far as my
case goes the Readers Digest version would go like this. I shot and
killed a serial rapist who broke into my home with the stated intent of
raping either my live in girl friend or her 8 year old daughter.
He attacked me so I killed him. Made the mistake of calling the police
and an ambulance. Was arrested, never denied the act, thought I was
in the right, they thought not. Was arrested, made my second mistake,
hired a lawyer who turned out to represent the 'victims' mother (small
town) unbeknownst to me at the time. Of course I lost
my trial. Came to prison, after my girlfriend told me, 'thanks for
everything, I'm moving to Idaho with a guy named Bob..'
Taught myself
the law, my appeal lawyer dropped the ball, I filed post conviction myself
and 'won.' Made my next mistake let the court talk me into letting
the Public Defenders Office take over. They promptly lost on reconsideration
then failed to file the proper way to appeal so I lost my state appeal.
Hired yet another lawyer since I no longer had access to a law library
and he has been working now for several years trying to fix all the screw
ups, so thats where I'm at now. -7/31/99
