Re: Request for your immediate intervention in a CRISIS situation in Tehran, Iran:
Saeed Masouri unjustly sentenced to death (File number 1/DT/5960)

On June 9, 2002, in Tehran, Iran, Saeed Masouri received a death sentence from a special clerical court as punishment for having expressed opinions that support human rights and fundamental freedoms. In this special hearing, Mr. Masouri was not defended by his lawyers, but by a religious lawyer appointed by the court. This trial cannot be considered to have taken place in "public"
by the standards of the international human rights instruments. This is in direct violation of Article 10 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on December 10, 1948, which states "Everyone is entitled in full equality to a fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal, in the determination of his rights and obligations and of any criminal charge against him." Saeed currently resides in Tehran's infamous Evin prison, awaiting execution.

Saeed Masouri was born in Iran in 1966.  He left the country and was granted landed immigrant status in Norway (case# 3032) in 1988.  His family did not have significant communication with him until receiving word of his arrest in Iran on January 20, 2001.  His legal representative in Oslo, Norway is Dug Holman.

I am Saeed Masouri's cousin.  I am a Swedish citizen.  I have witnessed many unjust acts (executions, prison sentences, etc.) at the hands of the Islamic Republic of Iran. My cousin, Iraj Masouri (Saeed's uncle), was executed in 1981 (less than one week after his arrest) without any trial, for expressing opinions that supported human rights and freedom of speech.

On behalf of Saeed and his family, I respectfully request your advice, assistance or action that
will result in the eradication of Saeed's sentence, or at the very least, a reduction from the death
penalty to imprisonment.  This matter is of utmost importance; we fear that the death sentence
will be carried out in the near future.

                                         Message from Nasrin Parvaz
Saeid Masori, an Iranian is now in Evin prison in ward 209 which is a solitary confinement ward. He is in danger of execution because he refused to take part in a public recantation.
The 209 ward is bult on top of the bakery and kichen of prison and is too hot to bare the cell,
specialy now during the summer. During my eight years imprisonment I was in one of the
cell of 209 ward for sometimes, which is one of the old and outdated wards in Evin prison.
Please send letters to the Iranian regime and ask for Saeid's release.
Your letters may save his life!
