More reports of abuses by administration at the Polunsky Unit
Nov 25, 2001 - Reports from death row prisoners at the Polunsky Unit

Friends, Tomorrow is Monday.  The holiday is over.  Please stay focused on the problems that need to be addressed at Polunsky.  Everyone already has ideas on who all to contact, including TDCJ through the Open Records Act.

I'm going to print exerpts from a letter I received yesterday.

-    There are 6 sections to each wing.  They are using 20+ guards per shift to shake down 1 section a shift.  They are reading letters to attorney or inmates or loved ones.  They are taking apart all fans, radios, typewriters, etc.

-    It will take weeks to do this.  At most 2 sections a day.  It's been 6 days, and they have only done 9 of the sections. Maybe they can drag it out until Christmas if they try hard enough.

-    Other rules they are breaking.  No matter how holidays or "special administrative days" fall, we are guaranteed access to the law library 3 times a week.  They just picked up the law books I got Friday and told me "no more books" until after Thanksgiving.  They are not allowed to make up rules as they go.  The Grievance I had in my door to be picked up was gone this morning!  Which means some idiot guard snatched it last night instead of letting the Grievance Liet pick it up.  When he came around this morning, he said he would "look into it"  Sure! They
have"lost" 4 or 5 of my Grievances somehow.  Imagine that!

-    It will be months before all the property being confiscated is allowed to go home.  Walking by the property room, I saw stacks of property thrown everywhere.

-    You never know, they may be worn out by the time they get to this pod. I doubt it, but it's possible.  I hope you voiced your opinion about the taking of multi-outlets.  What purpose does taking them serve other than to deprive us of them? None!  It's a ridiculous abusive decision.  I
have to have my booster on my radio to be able to pick up anything. That is 2 plugs. So no fan or hot water can be plugged in.  Then there is the reception.  The cords on radios are short.  You have to move the radio to different sections of the cell to pick up stations on AM - like
football and baseball games.  If extension cords and multi-plugs are taken, we won't be able to listen to sporting events or talk shows or news.

-    Be sure and mention how Warden Zellar is enforcing his own rules.  If we are have multi-outlets taken, then all prisoners should lose them.  If we can only have 2 bags of property, then all inmates in every Texas prison, including women, should be held to the same procedural rules.

-    They refuse to fix the antennae system here.  It used to work just fine

-    Remarks made by the guards and Major Lester that we will probably be on lockdown until the first of the year.  Forget your death penalty movement.  Work on conditions or you won't have to worry about any inmates left alive to kill.  Yes, I'm pissed.  No leaving this f_____
cell for another month or more?

-    Don't forget to mention we were denied clean socks, underwear and jumpers from Wednesday to Monday also.

Please continue to post any additional information, ideas, questions, and responses.

Thanks for all the expressions of concern.
