Information provided by Randall
Jones and his supporters.
Randall Scott Jones has been a prisoner
on Florida's Death Row for 12 years.
Randy has been described as a "bright,
caring person," who "never had a
chance." Before the age of 5,
he was kidnapped from his family and all he ever knew. As might be
expected, he rebelled against his captors and sought relief for his pain
and longing, with such a gaping hole in his heart, he survived his captivity
as best he could. Yet, his "cries for help," were mostly unheeded.
In 1980 he was admitted to the child psychiatric ward at Morton C. Plant Hospital.
In 1981 he was placed in a children's home in Mississippi where he was further abused by a violent dorm "father." He eventually ran away and was placed in a boys ranch in Florida in 1984. His living conditions, mental and emotional health, improved considerably at the ranch, and he graduated high school in 1986.
Later that year, Randy went into the US Army as an ear, nose, and throat specialist. He graduated Advanced Individual Training with honors and did fairly well in the Army until learning that his girlfriends mother committed suicide in Dec 1986 and that his father died in Jan 1987.
Due to oversleeping, Randy was seen by Army doctors who've indicated that he was severely depressed and suicidal. Although he wasn't treated, on May 1st 1987, he was Honorably Discharged based on less than satisfactory performance (a "failure to adjust" discharge.) Randy returned to Florida where he obtained two jobs simultaneously, and shared an apartment with a friend he'd met at the boy's ranch.
In August 1987, Randy and his friend were charged with two counts of first degree murder, as well as other charges which arise from the same incident.
Due to legal concerns and strategies,
many facts cannot be published at this time - suffice it to say that Randy
was still suicidal and having trouble coping. Because of his love
and need for lasting friendships, he has confessed to crimes he didn't
commit and done things he despises to ensure that others
are spared.
Randy's trial was a sham. It lasted approx. 1 1/2 days. His state paid attorney presented no defense , called not even one character, bolstered the state's case and detectives testimony, and conceded guilt. It was later discovered that this attorney and the trial judge were police officers ! His convictions and death sentences are being appealed.
Even though Randy has taught himself crotchet and has become an accomplished artist in order to try and support himself, The State of Florida prohibits him from operating a business while incarcerated. He spends his time helping others and working on his appeals as he's able.
Randy needs all the help anyone is willing and able to give.
