Justices of the Supreme Court

Theodore R. Boehm was appointed as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court on Aug. 7, 1996 by Gov. Evan Bayh at the age of 57. He was raised in Indianapolis, received his A.B. from Brown University in 1960, summa cum laude, and graduated magna cum laude in 1963 from Harvard Law School, where he was editor of the Harvard Law Review. He clerked for Chief Justice Earl Warren of the United States Supreme Court before joining the Indianapolis firm of Baker& Daniels in 1964. At the firm, he became partner in 1970 and managing partner in 1980.  While in private practice he was principally engaged in business litigation, including securities, antitrust, insurance coverage and corporate control disputes. In 1988 he joined General Electric as General Counsel of GE Appliances. One year later he was named Vice President and General Counsel of GE Aircraft Engines. In 1991 he joined Eli Lilly & Company as Deputy General Counsel before returning to Baker & Daniels in 1995. He was also Chairman and CEO of the organizing committee for the 1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis and was the first Chairman and CEO of the Indiana Sports Corporation. Justice Boehm is married and has four daughters and one granddaughter.

Randall T. Shepard of Evansville was appointed to the Court by Governor Robert D. Orr in 1985 at the age of 38. On March 5, 1987, he was appointed Chief Justice of Indiana. A seventh
generation Hoosier, he graduated from Princeton University cum laude and from the Yale Law
School. Shepard was Judge of the Vanderburgh Superior Court from 1980 until his appointment. He earlier served as executive assistant to Mayor Russell Lloyd of Evansville and as special assistant to the Under Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Shepard was also chairman of Indiana's State Student Assistance Commission and chairman of the Board of Advisors and trustee, National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Frank Sullivan, Jr., was appointed as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court on November 1, 1993, by Governor Evan Bayh. Born in 1950 in South Bend, Indiana, he attended Dartmouth College (A.B., cum laude, 1972) and Indiana University School of Law (J.D., magna cum laude, 1982). He served as administrative assistant and staff director for former U.S. Representative John Brademas and practiced law in Indianapolis, concentrating his practice in corporate and securities law. In 1989, he was appointed by Governor Bayh as Indiana State Budget Director, an office he held through 1992. He is married and has three sons.

Brent E. Dickson was appointed associate Justice on the Supreme Court on January 6, 1986.   Previously was a practicing attorney in Lafayette, Indiana for seventeen years. Attended Purdue University (B.A. 1964) and Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis (J.D. 1968). Admitted to practice in the Indiana Supreme Court and the United States District Courts in 1968, United States Court of Appeals, 1972, and the United States Supreme Court, 1975. Active in state, local, and trial bar associations. Born 1941, attended public schools at Hobart, Indiana. Married, three sons.

Myra C. Selby was appointed Associate Justice on the Supreme Court by Governor Evan Bayh in 1995. She is a 1977 graduate of Kalamazoo College and a 1980 graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. She practiced labor and employment law in Washington, D.C. (1980-1983) and health care law in Indianapolis (1983-1993). In 1993 she was appointed Director of Health Care Policy by Governor Evan Bayh. She is married and has one daughter.
