Jay Neill - Homophobia contributes
to death sentence
Jay Neill was 37 years old when executed for a crime committed
when he was 19. Homophobia and the anti - gay bias of the court
was intsrumental in Jay being sent to death row. Planet Out
reported " in 1992, the prosecutor said: "I want you to think briefly
about the man you're sitting in judgment on and determining what the
appropriate punishment should be ... I'd like to go through some things
that to me depict the true person, what kind of person he is. He is
a homosexual. The person you're sitting in judgment on -- disregard
Jay Neill. You're deciding life or death on a person that's a vowed
(sic) homosexual ... But these are areas you consider whenever you
determine the type of person you're sitting in judgment on. ... The individual's
homosexual." Neill was sentenced to death, despite evidence of an
abusive childhood and despite his genuine contrition. At his sentencing
trial, Neill told the families of his victims: "I am sorry. I am sorry.
It's eating me, and I believe that's part of my punishment. I'm sorry.
I don't know what to say to you. I wish there was something I could say

William Robert Jones - Executed
November 20, 2002 in Missouri
He never received a fair trial, and he would not have
been sentenced to death if he had received appropriate counsel from
an experienced lawyer who would have introduced extenuating circumstances

Aileen Wuornos - Executed October
9, 2002 in Florida
The state Supreme
Court rejected two efforts to stop the execution
based on claims she was mentally ill and therefore not competent
to be executed. The State's psychiatrists disagreed and
certified she was competent to be executed... Aileen has had mental
and emotional problems, as well as depression, and needed treatment -
not to be murdered! ("Her attorney states that Wuornos operates at
the emotional level of a 2-3 year old, and her behaviour should be understood
within that framework. " She has recently shown signs of being delusional;
her page includes recent news articles, all the legal documents and briefs
in the case, links to Court TV's real video interviews with Aileen and
testimony segments; and an MP3 of a San Diego band in her support, "For
Aileen."
INNOCENT - Died in Prison October 8, 2002
Fred Thomas - An Innocent Man
on Pennsylvania's Death Row
"Rotten" was the word that Judge William Barry
used to describe what Lynne Abraham, Roger King,
and the rest of the Philadelphia District Attorney's
office did to Fred Thomas. He cited police
intimidation, witness's recantation
and general dirty tricks by prosecution
as a proof that "his rights were violated."
Barry went on to say that "every person deserves
a fair trail" and that "[Fred] did not get one." Fred was
deathly ill - he had end-stage liver disease, diabetes and hepatitis C.
...Thomas always maintained that prosecutors realize they have wrongfully
convicted him but are unwilling to clear his name... Though his conviction
has been thrown out, and the judge said he did not get a fair trial, he
remains on death row because the state refuses to accept the judges ruling
and is appealing it. If the Philadelphia PA's office had not filed their
appeal Fred would be getting a new trial. They purposely postponed
this with their appeals of the supreme court decision to ensure Fred died
in prison before he was exonerated.
William Neives and
Otis Peterkin were exonerated and released from death row after similar
revelations about prosecutor Roger King, who also convicted Jimmy Dennis another
innocent man on death row.

away on Sept 18, still in prison, on death row from 'natural' causes,

Toronto Patterson
is another juvenile , only 17 at the time of the crime, who was condemned
to death in Texas. When Toronto originally wrote the CCADP, he was
working on a book, which he hoped would enable him to raise funds for

Witness Execution
Gary Etheridge - Texecuted August
20, 2002
Governor Perry was
invited by Claudia (Gary's Wife) to attend the execution: "...It’s now time for you to have the courage of your convictions
and stand up to your own words. I think it would be important to you
to finally witness an execution since you already signed so many death
warrants," the letter reads.
Needless to say
Perry didn't have the courage to respond to her letter. Gary was born
in 1964 and had been on death row since he was 26 years old. He

Fugate, III was executed Friday, August 16, 2002.
He was accused of the premeditated murder of his ex-wife. He DID

On Texecuted August 14, 2002
The President of
Mexico cancelled his trip to Bush's ranch, in an international protest
with 14 other
Latin speaking nations
throughout Europe, Central and South America. Again Texas authorities
failed to provide Javier his consular rights under the Vienna Convention,
as has happened with 55 other Mexican foreign nationals on death row across
the U.S. This Texecution has become an international incident.

was instrumental in the conviction that sent Randall Cannon to death row.
Gilchrist was exposed

chance to undo their wrongs." From Napoleon's last statement. Napoleon
was sentenced to death in Texas at the age of seventeen (17), in 1994.

Richard Charles Johnson

South Carolina's Govenor
Jim Hodges allowed the State of South Carolina to execute Richard Charles
Johnson for a crime he did not commit. In October 1999, just hours before
Mr. Johnson was last scheduled for execution, his co-defendent confesed
to the murder.

Todd was born in 1966

Just after Christmas 2001 he had exhibited stroke and seizure symptoms,
and an advanced brain tumour was found. Todd decided to refuse chemotherapy

Johnny William Byrd - Ohio: Innocent
Man Executed February 19, 2002
John Wm. Byrd had been
on Ohio's death row for over 17 years now, with no physical evidence and
no eyewitnesses, all thanks to a jail house informant with an extensive
criminal history. In all this time John has firmly maintained his innocence.
Despite the overwhelming evidence proving his innocence, both the Courts
and Ohio Governor Taft refused to intervene and stop the execution of an innocent
man.
