James Marlow - A Story Of Peter

Once as we were entering the town of Bethseda, we stopped at
a lone rich mans home, by which was a beautiful garden.

We entered a courtyard a tired company and the dust of the road
was heavy upon us.

Jesus knocked at the rich mans door, and after awhile, the man opened the door and Jesus ask, sir, we are weary and footsore.

And in need of warmth and rest, may we sleep upon your floor
this night?   The rich man answered, "No, you will not sleep upon
my floor !"

Jesus responded, "Then suffer us to sleep in your garden,"
Hey, ye shall not sleep in my garden,"  Hey, ye shall not sleep
in my garden, as he slammed the door !

At this Jesus turned to us and said, This yesterday will be your tomorrow, and this moment will be like your future.  And not even the gardens under the stars may be your couch !

But, if your feet are patient upon the road and follow me,
Perhaps it will be, you will find a bed and a basin, and bread
and wine also.

Yet, if it be that ye find none of these things forget not then,
that you have crossed one of my deserts.

Then I looked up and saw the rich man on his 2nd floor, his face
red with rage as he spoke, yet I could not make out his speech.

And we followed Jesus that night and many others to come.
