Poetry By Luther Williams, Death Row, Alabama
FEAR
It's another rainy day in prison
And there's nothing much to do.
So. I sit in my cell and write this
poem
of fear on death row.
I think about how I come to be here
in this small prison cell.
I think about all I've done in life.
I thought that living was all pleasure
until prison made me see.
I think about how depressed I am
knowing this rain will soon stop falling
As I sit here for years seeing guys
lives come to an end.
Just as I know my sentence has to end,
the fear of knowing which way it will
end on death row.
I'm knowing there are one friend that
keeps me striving toward the end.
Spirit of love with a positive message
send to this small prison cell.
A FRIENDSHIP
People are searching so far away,
I never thought it could be me.
People are praying for a friend
A search will never end.
My spirit is searching for a friend,
What is a truest friend?
A friend is someone who understands
your past, believes in your future,
and still accepts you just the way
you are.
Understanding a friendship will never
end.
Would you be concerned enough
to be my friend to the end?
STAY PROUD
Be proud of who you are!
Don't you ever feel down,
When times are rough.
Hold your head up high,
and stay strong and tough.
Good things come
to those who wait,
just believe in yourself
always have faith.
Be all that you can be
because you are a special human being.
To put it plain and simple,
be proud of who you are.
