Dear Sir,

I am writing to you on behalf of Mr. David Hicks. Mr. Hicks is presently incarcerated at the Ellis One Unit in Huntsville and is known under the inmate number 930. He is facing an execution date set for January 20, 2000.

Mr. Hicks was convicted of murder and sentenced to death in 1989 To this day Mr. Hicks has maintained his innocence despite DNA testing that - on the surface - seem to link him to the crime. However, further investigation has uncovered enough evidence to produce considerable doubt of Mr. Hicks' guilt.

I am sure that you agree with me, that a country like the United States that has throughout its existence defended and promoted human rights, cannot afford the risk of executing an innocent person and that every precaution possible must be taken to avoid an error of such magnitude.

I urge you therefore to please grant Mr. David Hicks a stay of execution and allow for sufficient time to reconsider the case.

Yours sincerely,
