                                A CALL FOR A NEW TRIAL FOR GARY GRAHAM (SHAKA SANKOFA)
                                                AND A MORATORIUM ON CAPITAL PUNISHMENT

We, the undersigned, are concerned people of conscience who seek justice and a new trial for Shaka Shankofa, where compelling evidence of his innocence can be reviewed in a judicial forum. We are shocked and appalled that the state of Texas has relentlessly pursued the execution of Shaka Sankofa despite the existence of this evidence. We are equally outraged that the federal judiciary has closed the doors of justice to this man on the hrink of death abandoning the historic mission of federal Courts to provide constitutional protections to persons under Sentence of Death. Justice Henry Blackmun has stated that the execution of a possibly innocent person is "perilously close to simple murder." To kill an innocent rnan is not an act of punishment but a murderous act, which we find intolerable and totally unacceptable in a civilized Community. We call on you to carry out your mandated duties as elected officials and ensure that justice is accorded to Shak Sankofa. We call for a new fair trial for Shaka Sankofa, We demand that no execution date be set for him. We further demand a moratorium on all executions in Texas and the rest of the United States.
