Are
We Losing Our Precious Gems? Cherishing our children,
as a trust from Allah, is a job filled with nurturing, guiding and caring
for the leaders of the next generation. This is a difficult challenge
facing adults today, simply deciding how to go about this noble task of
parenting can seem quite perplexing. The old system of parenting
is no longer acceptable or even hold merit. "Spare the rod and spoil
the child" is not beneficial, evidence demonstrates that this approach
can breed resentment, damage self esteem, which leads to delinquency and
hostility toward authority figures. As a Muslim, the Holy Quran and
the sunnah of the Prophet offers guidance, balance and social education.
Parents must set limits, shield their families from un-moral actions, build
taqwa in the family and develop the Godly character in the child.
Parents must not under estimate the childs intellect, a child does what
its taught directly or indirectly. We are losing our children because
we are failing ourself in which the child suffers, our parenting duties
and skills are poor, because we are expecting someone else to raise and
educate our child. Parents spare time should be devoted to
the child, not devoted to the TV, radio, sports or clubbing or even hanging
with the homeboys and gossipping with the girls. Children need social
education, not social deprivation.
