mistakes. He committed two robberies for which he accepts
responsibility and punishment. However, his criminal record and

charges stick to Anthony. In an interrogation they broke Anthony's finger
still he would not confess to a crime he had had no part in."

Grover "Bear" Reed
was sentenced to die in the Electric Chair in April, 1986, for a murder
he
has always denied committing. He knew the victim, a Reverend's wife.
The
Reverend himself had serious doubts about Bear's guilt even during the
trial.
Bear had previously lived with the couple and was a frequent visitor.
The
most damning piece of evidence against him was a fingerprint in the
victim's

On January 3, 2002 Juan Melendez became the 24th person to be released from death row in
the
state of Florida, the 99th Nationwide.
Melendez spent 17 years on death row for a 1983
murder
to which another man had repeatedly confessed -- evidence
prosecutors withheld.

informants who
were original suspects in the case have both since been found dead,

in two separate incidents. Police who worked on the case were

complexity
of his case.
