I am writing to you because you will soon be called upon to review and decide whether or not to grant Clemency to my friend Juan Roul Garza. It is the purpose of this letter to implore you to commute the federally imposed sentence of death which Juan currently has to a sentence of life in prison without the possibilty of release.

Mr. President, I realize that you are very busy and that in the normal course of your duties as President you are called upon daily to make decisions of life and death in a variety of ways. I would suggest however that never is such a decision more important than when it comes to the issue of Capital Punishment and the Death Penalty. You and you alone will decide if in fact Juan Roul Garza becomes the first American Citizen to be put to death by our government agents in more than thirty-six years.

Recently you gave a speech in Florence, Italy.  You spoke of a marriage between the United States and other countries on issues such as economics and social justice. Mr. President, are you aware that of all of the various countries represented at that conference The United States Of America is the ONLY country which allows the execution of its citizens in the name of justice?

JUAN ROUL GARZA, is currently on DEATH WATCH STATUS in his Federal Death Row Cell awaiting his date with the executioner who is an employee of the United States Department Of Justice.  Mr. President, what message does it send to other countries about the American system of justice if the United States Government begins the New Millennium by executing Juan Roul Garza?

Please Mr. President, during this season of giving, as we celebrate the Birth of The One who taught of LOVE, MERCY AND FORGIVENESS won't  you plaese show mercy upon Juan Roul Garza?  Won't you show the world that the United States Of America is a country that punishes its citizens for crimes committed.  Show that if a Citizen Commits the act of murder he or she will be removed from society forever.  That punishment Mr.  President is the punishment of a civilized society.  Killing Juan Roul Garza in the name of the UNITED STATES will only serve to Continue the cycle of violence of which he was convicted and sentenced to death.

Mr. President my prayers are with you as you once again face a life and death decision.  I pray that God will guide and direct you.  Realizing that it is often difficult to do something which is unpopular I ask that you remember the words of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ when He said  'LET YOU WHO ARE WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE !
