ADDRESSED TO: TRACY LAMOURIE;
DAVE PARKINSON;
HERMALINDA;
AND ALL OUR FRIENDS ON WEBSITE:
In love I embrace you, and in peace I greet you.
Before anything, allow me to express my gratitude to all of you in general, and in particular all the tireless soldiers around the world who continue to duel this oppressive tyrant, (DP) with merely your courage and "pitchfork" in hand, despite the tremendous odds!! I am amazed at your courage, humbled by your magnanimity, and extremely grateful for your support.
I believe it is extremely important that our community focus on what is really happening in this country. Remember one thing: this is not our system.
A system that attempts to eradicate a certain class of its citizenry under the guise of "law and order", no matter what euphemisms we may want to cloak it with, or propaganda we may want to use...it can never be compatible in a Judeo - Christian society, neither can it co exist within the confines of a democracy.
One common thread that holds together the majority on death row, besides being convicted of a murder, and which, for the most part, our great society is / may be unaware of : some are retarded, or borderline retarded; many are illiterate, with a sixth or seventh grade education; the overall majority are poor; mostly everyone was represented by a court appointed attorney who was either overworked or lacked the experience to take on a case of this high magnitude; and, contrary to popular opinion, not everyone on the row is a John Gacy, Ted Bundy, Kenneth MacDuff - type of killer.
The system, obviously, is not only applied disparately, but it is corrupted in every sense; it is a system manipulated and utilized by the upper class...ambitiously driven, career minded, unscrupulous politicians (not all, some are good people) who see and are moved on nothing but polls and not for what is "just" and "right."
I like to think that our country is above that, that we are the most civilized, God fearing, compassionate, yet heroic, country on the planet Earth. Yet I open my eyes and it dawns on me that in the very state I reside, the yahoo state of Texas, we are awashed in blood to our knees as we are leading every other state in the killing of our own citizenry.
Since when has the act of brutalizing and killing the weak, the poor and the unpopular become as American as apple pie? Has the confession "forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us," become our new national anthem? Or is it truly our sacred, heartfelt confession onto God?
Have we become so intoxicated with our arrogance that we can no longer be guided by our God given magnanimous, enlightening spirit ?
We have come a long ways from the days when we used to whip poor slaves into submission, bringing them over in chains into this country, while we sing Christian hymns.
We have come a long ways from the days when we used to massacre Indians, poor innocent women and children, while stealing their land.
We have come a long ways from the days when we adopted a constitution during the Civil War that gave a slave owner the right to maim a slave if he sought freedom through insurrection.
I am against killing the upper class, or anyone for that matter, but the class distinction regarding death, particularly in Huntsville, is a cancer on our society. Not only is it wrong and unfair , but immoral and unethical. If you are a poor white, black, or brown, you are far more likely to die. Thats the bottom line.
Whoever is reading this message, whether you are Republican, Democrat, liberal or conservative, a right or left winger, or simply an ambiguous proponent of the death penalty, on behalf of all the poor, befallen, downtrodden men, the main majority who are illiterate and cannot write to express their pain and sincere, heartfelt contrition, I beseech your support, mercy, compassion, love and understanding. For, I believe that, it'll be the people like you who will make the difference, who will slow down the fast pace of evil and eventually cause it to run out of steam,wither and die. Alone, you are the best soldier on the field; united, marching under the banner of reason, truth and logic, you become even better.
As I said before, the Death Penalty is a cancer in our society that should and must be excised. When you go to a doctor and he diagnoses a danger well in advance it can easily be curtailed or remedied by providing the required medicine; but if you wait too long it will fester and your condition will worsen. So it can be said, I think, on the evils facing any given country. If we procrastinate and allow an evil to persist, soon it'll worsen and the condition will be much more difficult to arrest. Sure, maybe for some time, it'll be okay for the common citizenr, not realizing that, this "security" they experience, is nothing more than a false sense of security , and a postponement of worst things to come. You don't have to be a genius to see and understand what is before you when it comes to the death penalty - a process oiled by hate, greed, malice, and unfairness. Everyone back here is linked together by hunger, want and inequality, no grey areas there, its all in black and white.
As the Abolitionist Frederick Douglas once said that "in a composite nation like ours, as before the law, there should be no rich, no poor, no high, no low, no white, no black, but common country, common citizenship, equal rights and a common destiny". We too must remove these shackes imprisoningour minds and hearts and be readily willing to transform the way we have been accustomed to thinking. You who are reading these words, whether you are the C.E.O of a company, the middle man carrying our letters, or simply a poor man stretching his last dollar, trying to make ends meet, we are all in this together; we are all part of a big family (humanity); we are all fallible human beings, susceptible to mistakes, who would like to believe that we, as a human race, are not beyond forgiving or finding forgiveness...we all need to work together, united as one, and work for a "common country, a common citizenship, equal rights, common destiny," and a common sense of reason, logic, and understanding. ( "I shall ask for the abolition of the punishment of death until I have the infallibility of human judgement demonstrated to me." - Thomas Jefferson, 1743 - 1846)
Yes, I realize and understand that for many of you,
it'll be quite difficult to comply with what I'm beseeching...to reach
out a hand to us and accept us as your fellow human beings,
because, if experience has taught me well, if there is anything I have
learned, it is this: that men are mean and indifferent to the discredited,
and that when you are defenseless and have fallen, it is difficult to find
friends and so very little mercy. So I'm already aware how difficult
this will be for many of you. Yet, in YOUR COURAGE, I have great
faith; and it is to this courage I am praying and concentrating on, hoping
to awaken it. It takes a lot of courage to declare a truth and stand
for an idea or an act that is in odds to the publics sentiment. Someone
big enough to search for a truth and find it and declare it in the face
of all opposition is truly a courageous person. I hope this person
is you. No, there is no doubt its you, otherwise you wouldn't
have endured my words to this end. In humility accept our thanks.

to abandon them." - Con-

of victory." - Plutarch -
