PENPAL REQUEST:
Name:
Chay'im Ben-Sholom / Marshall
DOB:
11 March 1966 (19 Adar 5726)
Religion:
Jewish
Incarcerated
On Death Row:
I am currently enrolled in a college extension
programme being offered by Patten College of Oakland, CA. here at the prison.
I am working on a Theology major, and I am enjoying the process.
I just wish the programme had become available much sooner than it did, it
is very recent.
I enjoy corresponding with all sorts of
people, religion (or lack thereof), race, gender, or age does NOT matter.
Letters, for me, are very important as a lifeline to the outside world and
it always brightens my day to get a letter at mail call!
I enjoy music, before coming to prison I
was an amateur musician. I started playing my first musical instrument
in the third grade, a Trumpet, later picking up other instruments in the
Brass and Woodwinds sections of the orchestra. I continued to play
until I joined the American Army in 1983.
Although the prison severely limits the
number of audio cassettes we can have to twelve, (we aren't permitted CDs
at all) I have cassettes from such varied artists as Sheryl Crow, Quiet Riot,
Foreigner, and Don Henley. My favourite song of all time is "Hotel
California" by the Eagles.
I also draw, when I have time. I am
something of a self taught cartoonist and have recently even created my own
original character, the "Sage", based upon a 19th Century Eastern European
Rabbi.
There is only one rule to correspondence
with me, I cannot on the advice of my attorneys discuss any details related
to the case I currently have on appeal. Any questions regarding this
information can be addressed directly to my attorneys' I will provide
the address of my attorneys freely upon anyone'e request. I do not
personally enjoy this muzzle, but this is a fight for my life, and I have
to trust the advice of my attorneys. I'm sorry, but, that is just the
way that it is.
Anything else, is open for discussion.
You want to talk about anything ranging from music to motorcycles, and it
is fine with me. However,
for us to discusss anything, it means you first have to write a letter :-)
so it is now up to you, if you write, I will
respond. I will be awaiting your letter at mail call !
I will leave you with a lymric that I learned
as a child, and I was reminded of when presented with this opportunity, "Opportunity
knocks but once, then comes again no more. Temptation bangs and pounds
till it smashes in your door!"
See ya!

A PERSONAL NOTE - May 26, 1999:
To Karl: Thanks much for your
efforts in getting my artwork photographed.
I received the photos this date and I
am greatly pleased with the quality of the work !
To Mrs. Dehler who actually took the
photographs, your work is excellent !
These photographs are the very best quality
photos of my drawings I have ever received ! Your efforts and insistence
on quality is so very greatly appreciated,
words are not sufficient !
To Anna, Devorah, Edit, Mavis & Mary,
Kim, Jane and all the rest I send you my personal greetings ! I'm a
little short on stamps at the moment so if you don't
hear from me for a few weeks, thats why.
No worries, just a small snag !
Take care, one and all,
