I brought these, as I saw them; attacks on my Latin Heritage, to the attention of the Deputy Director of the southern district, Mr. Neil. All he wanted to know was if the officer had written me a ticket. When I told him, "No", he said, "So what's the problem?!?" As I saw it, the officer was attacking not only me but all people of Latino descent. And just because I am a American, does not dictate I cannot be proud, and show that pride in my Latin Heritage. Is not America the supposed land of 'Free Will? Free Choice? Where all people are supposedly treated equal, no matter what their ethnic makeup nor color may be?
That was over one year ago. The faces have changed here somewhat; but all the "Racism" is stronger, bolder, and more open than ever. We now have a Lieutenant who not only thinks that all Latinos are crazy; but this he even stated to another inmate ! This same person saw a painting done from a picture, of a black -woman that an inmate had many pangs over while he painted it. Upon seeing this painting, the guard said something to the effect: Doing it with a black woman is like riding a moped; after you do it once, you never go back.
A short time ago, a fellow inmate, Anthony Porter, was released from death row, when it was ultimately discovered by way of a interviewed admission of another person in society, that he (the interviewee), not Anthony Porter, had actually committed the murder for which Porter was incarcerated and sentenced to death.
As if this were not bad enough; it was found out that some of the officers were going to be appearing in court to testify against Porter as to his character; how much of a genius he was; that he played chess daily; had a extremely well versed vocabulary; as well as a I.Q. above 150. When in fact of matter, this man could not even read any of his mail properly with any comprehension; he had then read to him. He did not know how to play chess; cell to cell nor face to face. His vocabulary skills were more that of a 6th grade child. And it was actually so discovered his I.Q. was below 70. But, did any of this bother or deter any of the officers? N0 ! Their opinion was still that Porter should still be executed; that he had more than likely committed numerous murders which went undetected; that he, like all blacks should be removed from America. There have even been times when officers have been overheard saving things like, "All blacks should be put on barges and shipped back to Africa so they can destroy themselves." A sad, sad commentary and state of affairs, when we have not only to endure our being prosecuted; but also being prosecuted and, on top of that persecuted by racist officers.. for a second time?
There have even been numerous times, when it was related to me that officers have been betting on, 'When, If, If Not' inmates close to their execution dates would actually meet their fate. Is not gambling illegal? Is not gambling on the life; more to the point, the death of a fellow human being a act of immorality and incivility? Low self-esteem, Cowardice, Incompetence, and RACISM are the refulgent intaglios these officers are proud to wear as a badge of honor.
Shame ! Shame? Shame? When barbarism, immorality, incompetence, cowardice, and 'Racism' can be allowed to run rampant in the Illinois Judiciary, as well as the Penal System, and go unchecked. This is a sure guarantee to destruction of the societal wish for a country of people living and thriving as one in harmony. How can harmony be of a dominant force, when the Government has convinced the people that incarceration or execution is the only way to go? What became of helping your fellow man? What became of forgiveness? The only thing living and thriving; growing in America is hate, 'RACISM.' It has been a part of what made up America, and it is still what makes up America today. Only now is a more open form of 'RACISM', with blacks being dragged behind trucks, children out shooting or beating other children to death because of the color of their skin. And thanks to the likes of the people who Govern this country; that make paths for those in our Judiciary and Penal System; this country has put themselves in the company of other barbaric countries. Shame ! Shame on you all ! There is no amount of executions, nor lengthy terms of incarceration which can change this sad fact. Because of the inhumane manner of which inmates are treated; as if we are less than human, prisons are becoming breeding grounds for hate. Hate of all other races but our own. Hate of authority. Hate of life. Hate, even of ourselves.
Welcome to America !
