CASE INFORMATION LETTER

Hello Friends:
My name is Jerard Bradley and I am a capital case prisoner at S.C.I. Greene in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. I was convicted on October 18, 1989 for the alleged strangulation of my neighbor from across the street, whom the commonwealth court claimed allegedly walked in on the commission of a burglary of her apartment.
I was charged with this crime because
I admitted to having a (3) three month secret sexual relationship with
this woman. Unfortunately she was a young 18 yr. old blonde, white
woman, and I at the time was a 23 yr. old, 235 lb. black man. In
today's society that was enough to have me convicted before an all white
jury. I was convicted of 1st degree murder, 1 count of burglary and
1
count of robbery. Through out
the entire (2) two years and (4) four months that I was incarcerated in
that county prison awaiting trial, there was never any evidence at all
to connect me to this crime.
In fact, the only eye witness whom
the prosecutor put on the stand testified that at the time of this crime
he witnessed me heading in the complete opposite direction of the building
on my way to work. Therefore, there was no way at all that I could
have possibly been in that apartment and on my way to work at the same
time. And all though I attempted to present a clear cut case to prove
my innocence of these charges that
were lodged against me, I was convicted anyway. However, on August
4th, 1999 my appeal was granted by the Pennsylvania State Supreme Court.
My conviction was overturned and the death sentence was also thrown out.
I won my appeal on ineffective assistance of counsel, and because of that, I am barred from using those same attorneys. Therefore, I must hire new attorneys. But due to my non-existent financial status and because I have no family, I cannot afford to hire any new attorney. For this reason, I am now appealing for any and all financial assistance, donations, and or contributions so that I can hire some good attorneys and a private investigator to help me locate my old witness and who can handle my new trial.
All though I have done most of the work
-alone- on my appeal, I am not an attorney. And because the Supreme
Court ruled my previous counsel was ineffective, I fear that the court
will be even more harsh to me. I will be forced to attempt to handle
all of this sensitive legal work on my own. Therefore, I am
appealing to anyone who is willing to make a much needed sacrifice for
me and
helping me with the necessary funds
so that I can hire a new competent attorney.
