If you get arrested in Texas . . .
. . . you may not be allowed
to contact your government or family for assistance. Canadian
Stan Faulder was on Death Row facing execution for 15 years in a Huntsville
prison before his family and the Canadian government were able to find
him !
And it's not just Canadian
Stan Faulder , The State of Texas
has violated international law on numerous occasions, by failing to advise
foreign
nationals of their rights to seek consular assistance should they be arrested
in this foreign land.
These violations along with
the continued execution of Juvenile offenders and the Mentally Handicapped,
not to mention the blatant lack of accountability on the part of the Texas
criminal
justice system, the board of pardons and paroles, the institutions in Huntsville
Texas, and above all Governor George
Bush Jr.
Governor Bush has refused
on all these occasions to even address the issue of international law and
standards, which could seriously impeach America's international credibility
when it comes to issues dealing with upholding international law, as well
as endangering the US' ability to protect US citizens travelling abroad
who end up in police custody.
Texas Governor Bush thinks he can blatantly ignore international law and treaty, he's violated it dozens of times as Governor and when confronted about it refuses to explain ! When a highly respected Canadian delegation went down to Texas to help stop the execution of Stanley Faulder, they were met with the rudest imaginable behavior from the Texas board of paroles' Victor Rodriguez. After agreeing to have a meeting with the delegation, Mr. Rodriguez was rude and belligerent to them and then threatened them with arrest and criminal charges should they not immediately leave the building !
Is this the kind of White House we can expect from Mr.Bush should he run for president ?
After appeals from Lloyd Axworthy, Madeline Allbright, Ruben 'Hurricane' Carter, even South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Governor Bush refused to even acknowledge the international outcry for clemency and proceeded to press for Mr. Faulder's execution.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE)
has issued an official press release in response to the disgusting treatment
received by the delegation from Victor Rodriguez of the Texas Pardons and
Parole Board CUPE
- press release
Why would
Governor Bush put American's at risk of false prosecution overseas ?
