                      Grover ‘Bear’ Reed

This is the story of Grover Burnet Reed. He has been on Florida’s Death Row for 13 years. He maintains his innocence today as he always has done. It is not an idle claim. If you take the
trouble to read this, you can judge for yourself.

How did he end up on death row?

Betty Oermann, the wife of a Church Minister, was raped and murdered on 27th February 1986 in her own home. It was an horrific crime. Grover Reed knew her well. He was subsequently
arrested on April 12th, tried and convicted on 20th November. Following the sentencing phase
on 26th November was sentenced to death on 9th January 1987, and removed to Death Row that day.

As you read the entire document you will see that a combination of unfortunate circumstance, ineffective counsel, perjury and prosecutorial misconduct combined to override the factual innocence which led to the conviction and death sentence.

You will learn too that the factual innocence was actually proven by the prosecution, but
no-body, including themselves picked that up at the trial.

                      What happened following conviction?

On June 15th 1989 Grover Reed won a re-trial when it was proved there was unwarranted and arbitrary removal of black jurors from the trial, presumably as there is a perception they are less likely to vote for death in a capital trial.
The new trial was removed as an option, without legal explanation on 1st March 1990 on the same day the appeal against conviction was denied.

The defence was taken over by the C.C.R and C.C.R.C (state funded capital case defence
system) in February 1991, FOURTEEN changes of Attorney have occurred, none through Grover Reed’s choice or control. SEVEN investigators have been assigned, but at the time of writing (1.1.00) there is no defence team.

In short very little has happened at all. The case appears stuck in permanent limbo.

Grover Reed has been forced to fight for his life, in every sense of the word, alone at the moment.

What do you want from me the reader?
