Life On Condemned Row - Anton Krawczuk
Anton's Lamp Of Hope Penpal Request

The U.S. is becoming increasingly isolated in its support for the death penalty, according to a recent report by the death penalty information center, which opposes capital punishment.   More than  nations have abolished the death penalty at a time when U.S. executions will likely total more than 100 this year, a level that will be exceeded only by China and the Congo.  The European Union is planning to press for a U.N. General Assembly vote this year approving a worldwide moratorium on capital
punishment.  Mary Robinson, U.N. high commissioner for human rights, said that the increasing use of the death penalty in the U.S. "Runs counter to the international community's expressed desire" to abolish capital punishment. Was the deadliest year on the nation's death rows in 45 years.  As far as FLA's capital punishment is concerned, there is a legal challenge to be heard by the U.S. supreme court in either February or March, 2000.   The 2 guys scheduled to die in Florida's electric chair on October 26th & 27th, were given indefinite stays until the U.S. Supreme Court hears
oral arguments on the constitutionality or the chair.  So it is a mandatory moratorium on Florida's sole means of executing its condemned...
This is outraging politicians, who have been dealing with the chair for years.  I heard on the news last night that a "Special Legislative Session" will be heard in January to propose an option of the electric chair or lethal injection.   In my opinion they should have made the switch to lethal injection years ago.  It would have avoided all of this ongoing litigation.   Florida embraces the chair, and it now has come back to haunt them.

On the incident of the beating death of death row inmate, Frank Valdez in July 1999, only one guard was indicted by an Alachua County Grand Jury this week.  There were a total of 9 guards implicated though.
So we are always on the alert, for any odd behavior by the guards.
They seem to be able to take matters into their own hands, and get away with it. "Everything she does is magic", by 'The Police' is on.  What you have to ask yourself is this; Who is guarding the guards ?  On friday, 11/5 there was a melee at nearby Florida State Prison, & 6 guards were injured.   It all began on 'B' wing, when a mattress was lit on fire in someone's cell.  Due to all of the dense smoke on the cell block, they had to put 96 inmates outside on the exercise yard, which was where the fight started.  We heard about it on the television.  Although death row inmates
are housed at Florida State Prrison,'B' wing is not where they are.
I believe they are housed on 'R' wing.  Frank Valdez was being housed on 'X' wing when he was beaten to death in July.  It is an isolation cell block from where the others are housed from death row, so the guards were able to get away with alot of violence directed toward us.  Video cameras have since been installed on 'X' wing to monitor the activity on the wing.  Also, all excessive use of force by "extraction Teams" is videotaped to prevent abusive displays by staff.   This unit here at Raiford already had video monitors in place on every tier, plus on each of the exercise areas,
etc...

I do not have any arrangements for a legal defense fund, since I am still being represented by the State funded agency; Capital Collateral Regional Counsel.  I am indigent, so I definitely appreciate financial help in the
form of money orders made out to my name & number as seen on my return
address.
Also I am allowed to receive up to but not to exceed the value of $6.60,
which is 20 - .33 cent stamps. "Tiny Dancer" by Elton John is now on.

 I am allowed to receive up to four paperback novels, as long as they come from a publisher or a bookstore such as;
Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, etc... I am a mystery fan or suspense,
and I also enjoy solving crossword puzzles.  In addition to the 4 books,
a magazine may be enclosed.   Hopefully any pen pals reaching out to my
on-line request, will be in a position to help out in the areas I have
mentioned :) since my family has forsaken me, I rely on the generosity
of those who do correspond with me.
