are now in the cold season and I do not know how to survive under the
adverse perilous plight of
hunger crisis and being tortured by coldness. My situation is very
bad, I am entangled in a web of calamities that are just too burdensome to
carry. My offense is of murder, and these occurred after a fight. With
a lawyer I was supposed to be charged and convicted under the offense
of man-slaughter which carries a sentence of 1 year to 5 years maximum.
Imagine-I was apprehended on 6th Sept. 1985. Convicted and sentenced
to death on 11th July 1986. My appeal both against conviction and sentence
was dismissed on 20th Feb. 1991. I have seen many inmates set free because
of their financial muscles. But I have no one to help me and am in

. I recently defected to Christianity from Islam. This has caused
a lot of problems for me. My family, friends, and relatives have all

very big problem to them, that's the reason why, for me to found even
toiletries is a big problem. Our prisons have reached the alarming level
where by, prisoners are requested to buy their own food in order to feed
themselves. And this is happening not only to those who come from well
to do families. But has to people like me who come from a pauper family,
I tell you it is a sad story. We just surviving by the mercy of God. I

JOB KASONDA KAPITA Dear All; I answer to the name of Job Kasonda Kapita.
I am incarcerated in Kabwe. Prior to this I was a policeman in
the Zambian police force. It was during the execution of my duty that
I got into this horror of a dilemma, I shot and subsequently killed
a violent suspicious suspect I wanted to arrest for disorderly at the
police station. His verbal provocations, threats and his refusal to be
lawfully placed in police cell made it happen. All occurred within the
station yard five metres from my office. I was arrested for murder
on 6th October 1994. I was convicted in a bizarre manner to be cruelly hanged
by the neck till proved dead on 29th February 1995 at the high court. The
judge acted unfairly and exhibited unprofessionalism of the worst manner.
There was a difference between witness testimonies at the police and at
the court. Being unsatisfied with the conviction and sentence I appealed
to our Supreme Court. The Supreme Court upheld the conviction and sentence
in 1996. Meanwhile the only option I have remained is to write a petition
of mercy to the president of our country. I am 33 years of age.
I never knew the deceased and therefore had no evil intention
to harm him. It was purely a misadventure by the nature of my demanding and
dangerous career assigned by the government to maintain law and order. I
served in the police force for four years without facing an charge or being
implicated in a criminal offence. I am
looking for pen friends to support me in my situation. Someone who is loving
and caring. My hobbies are Judo, Karate, Golf, Chess, reading Christian
literature and solving mathematic problems. I will be thankful for any

Zambia !....Let me tell you about myself, first I thank you for putting
my name on your webpage. As you don't know, I have been on death row
for 21 years now - riding an emotional roller coaster of hell. It
has been an excrutiating time to go through. I thought I was the logest
person on death row in the world. But when I heard the execution
of Gary Graham I was
really surprised to find that he was on death row in Texas for 19 years.
A lot of people are hidden in prisons worldwide.....it seems a lot of people
in North America don't know a lot about people who suffering in prisons
in Africa; when you put my name on your page you can also put that in french,
I understand the language...I will be grateful should you respond to my
message. I am lonely here the shadow of death is my constant source
of depression to this end. As I write this letter to you, I don't have
any bathing soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, or shaving razors - I just depend
begging on fellow inmates who are visited by their families, as I don't have
anyone who comes to see me, due to my long stay on death row. If possible,
you can send me some bathing soap, I remain to hear from you soon, may
the Lord open the windows of heaven and rain his blessings on you.

greetings from Death Row Zambia... To make matters worse our country
is facing starvation, people are dying, and you can't like it if you where
here in Zambia, they are dying with hunger. In many parts of Zambia
people are eating what people never eaten before, the soft tree leaves,
soft tree roots etc. On the radio is the only news you can listen to,
is hunger all the time. Although am here in prison am feel oppressed
double am thinking about my children because hunger can claim their lives
at any time as they under care of my aging mum who are not doing anything
at all, My wife divorced me while here and dumped my children to my aging
mom at this time I don't know where she is. I am requesting to anyone
to assist my children with 50 US Dollars, this can do a lot to them. If
you scan at Internet about hunger you will believe me how is Zambia facing
starvation. To us prisoners our government don't consider us as their
fellow human being, we eat once per day breakfast, porridge without sugar
daily.
